What you'll do

When our visitors arrive at the Sanctuary, the first thing we will do is make a small introduction about our family project, we are guardians of 48 hectares of forest since 1999.

During the walk to the plantation, we will talk about the history of coffee in the world and Costa Rica, and then explain on the plantation what permaculture consists of and sustainable farming versus monocultures.

Also, learning about specialty coffee and the different ways of processing and finish with a visit to the drying area.

On the way back you will have a coffee tasting in three different roasts and methods and each participant will learn how to prepare their own coffee in the proper way.

In the end you will learn: how to be a more informed and smart buyer, make the most of the product and value the work behind each cup of coffee.
Other things to note
We are the only specialty organic coffee plantation in Monteverde.
During the year coffee goes through different stages, therefore, depending on the season you will see different processes.

This experience was exactly what we wanted! There was a lot of passion in the way Chris describes his work and family’s goal in building a sustainable sanctuary. The coffee was great, the snack provided by his mother was delicious, and the historical context was helpful. I really enjoyed being able to enjoy nature that hasn’t been disrupted as much as others because of tourism.

We had a wonderful experience! Chris spoke so passionately and knowledgeably about his work and his coffee, it was hard not to share in his enthusiasm. In addition to the great coffee and hands-on learning, wandering around the farm was a fun adventure in itself. Highly recommend.

If you’re looking for a sustainable experience with locals, this is it. Our host was amazing. He’s uber passionate about coffee & sustainability. The place is a family owned and it has an amazing jungle-like charm. We bought t-shirts, coffee, and tea. I get the feel that mother earth loves this family. We also got to drink a variations of coffee flavora. Overall this felt like a course on sustainability and coffee with a cute location. Super conversational and and easy to talk to.
