What you'll do
Join us for a dawn-till-dusk walk in a wild place in the beautiful rolling countryside around Bath. With everything that we will need for the day, our small group of adult explorers will spend a gentle, immersive day in nature. Speaking only of the present moment, noticing, taking in the nature around us we will travel by foot together. Inspired by the work of John Muir who is often credited as the father of the environmental movement these Muir Treks offer one long drink of nature.
We will meet on the Friday evening at 8 pm at Upper Swainswick House, our beautiful Georgian home, set just north of Bath, for a briefing and a short night walk. You will sleep at our house and be woken the next morning just before dawn. After a light breakfast, we will set out before the sunrise into the countryside for an all-day wander. The trek is framed and held by readings and insights from your guide. There will be time to listen, watch, explore, draw and rest. We will provide plenty to eat. As the sun draws near to setting and out day comes to a close we will return to the house. With the Muir trek experience officially over by dusk, and depending on the weather and the different participants' needs we may then be able to gather around a fire share stories about the past, dreams for the future and have a laugh and connect with the group before we finally finish. photos @rubyhazael

Hello, I am Edward, leader of your day out in nature. A few years ago my wife Rachel and I went to Dartmoor, to a small wooden-clad youth hostel hidden in some woods. We slept in the hut and set off from there just before the sun rose to wander through a wild wilderness, a deep valley cut by the river flowing for a millennium or 2 from the moor. Our guide was teaching us how to do Muir treks which were formulated by the Institute of Earth Education based in the US in the late ’60s around the work of John Muir - often credited as the father of the environmental movement.
I lead treks in the Bath area and in the New Forest in Hampshire; facilitating trekkers in experiencing a turning of the earth, deep from within nature.
I am also owner and Co-founder of Swainswick Explorers, a play project established in Bath in 2003.
