What you'll do

Join me and experience Cretan nature and the local agricultural history of past century through the process of soap making. Our meeting point will be the coffee shop of the village, where we will be treated traditional Greek coffee as the locals do and use that time to discuss the history and philosophy of village Arolithos and soap making in Crete.
We will enjoy a stroll around the village alleys and use this opportunity to discover the beauty and natural wealth of our land. We will collect into a basket all the materials that are offered to us by nature, which will, later on, be the raw materials used for soap creation. The materials are: Olive oil, goat milk, honey and variety of herbs from our botanic gardens. The rest of our necessities will be stored within the workshop. Once in the workshop, we will gear up meaning, wear our gloves and aprons, and I will guide you step by step through the process of the cold method of soap making (ingredients and properties each material offers, preparation, measurements, mixing, making the soap and finally molding it).
For the final step, you will take the bars of pure handmade soap and instructions in regards to the way you create your own packaging. Furthermore, we will give you the recipe so you can make your own natural homemade soaps. There is no need to bring anything with you other than, your love.

Where you'll be

The experience takes part in Aroltihos Traditional Cretan Village. Arolithos is a unique traditional private Cretan village. The village Arolithos has taken that symbolic name because it encompasses the traditional elements and beauty of Crete. Our guests escape present time and they travel back to the past times.

We HIGHLY discourage anyone from this experience and recommend literally any other soap making workshop (or anything for that matter). The description is incredibly misleading and the price incredibly unjustified. Firstly, the location is actually a modern village built in the 1980s to seem old. It's sort of like an all-inclusive hotel/playground made to seem old. There are no botanical gardens and you do not gather your own ingredients. There is not history museum and you do not learn about local agriculture. We were told to take some dying sprigs of lavender from a bush next to the building, which we didn't even use. Furthermore, the ingredients were store bought goat milk, honey, olive oil, and some dried herbs. You can find these in any grocery store on the island. The coffee is actually at a hotel restaurant overlooking a pool with screaming children. You do not "roll up your sleeves" and individually make soap. The host does all of the work while you watch. We had four people then watching the host make soap. If there were four stations to actually make your own soap, it would be a different story. Finally, the price is so far from the description and experience (we walked out with four small bars in total – one per person – of soap for 200 Euros). Additionally, there was literally zero communication from Michalis. He did not respond to messages when we were lost, he wasn't actually the guide, and he still hasn't responded to any messages. Please consider another experience!!!
