What you'll do

Join us on a walking tour in the historical center of Salerno.

Salernum was founded by the Romans in the 2nd century B. C. but the most important period for the city was in the middle ages.

After the destruction of the Roman Empire in Italy the Lombards created a dukedom in Campania and Salerno became its capital.

In this time Salerno was one of the most important cities of the Mediterrenean sea, Here was founded the first Medical School around the end of the 9th century A. D.

We will go to discover the history and the architecture of the medieval time with a visit into the Cathedral of Saint Matthew, a spectacular example of Arab-Norman architecture. This church also contains a beautiful crypt in Baroque style.

We will be also happy to give you some tips where to eat local food and where to go to drink a beer in authentic places.

Use the time with us also to ask question about the entire region and the other beautiful sites you want to visit and you need advices!

This is a great tour also for an introduction and orientation of all the beauties of Campania Region (Amalfi coast, Paestum, Capri island, Pompeii etc..)
Other things to note
The entrance of the Crypt of Saint Matthew is free but an offer to the church is a best practise.

You can’t visit Salerno without doing Roberto’s tour! I booked my travels last minute and had no idea what to expect, but I feel like Roberto showed me the main things of his city in the two hours we spent together. What I especially loved is that, after I told him I didn’t care much for stones (apologies to all archeologists worldwide), he adapted his tour much more around legends and stories, which I found really interesting. Salerno is a fascinating town and its history is too interesting to miss!

A tour that exceeded expectations in so many areas. Roberto found us while we were still working out where we were :) and continued to get better. His expertise and understanding meant that he showed us things that would never have been captured in any guide book and in the process made old Salerno come alive for us. We felt like it was much more than a sightseeing trip ... it was a highly enjoyable learning experience that left us wiser and I have no hesitation recommending this tour and Roberto.
