What you'll do

Do you know what Nankin Tamasudare is? It’s a traditional type of street performance. The performer holds a special screen made from foot-long bamboo sticks that are loosely woven with twine. This is rapidly twisted, folded, and extended into various shapes while the performer chants an amusing poem describing the items to a distinctive rhythm. Among the many items portrayed are tai (sea bream), tsurizao (fishing rod), niji (rainbow), and kokki (national flag). I am a professional performer who will offer you the rare chance to join a fun-filled workshop. After a private performance, you will have a hands-on experience with my guidance. You can even change into the special costume and immediately turn into an old-time street-performer—and, of course, take some commemorative photos.

Yoyohime

I am an accredited master of Nankin Tamasudare. I studied under Shirato Otohime, the head of Ginza Nankin Tamasudare Shirato Clan, for over 10 years. I became an acting master in 2013, and an accredited master in 2017. This mysterious and enjoyable performance is a lot of fun when you see it. There is fun to play further, and I would like to share it with my friends all over the world.
