What you'll do

After a brief assessment of your needs over the phone, we will arrange a meet at the start of a traffic free trail, such as the Exe Estuary Trial or the Grand Western Canal. Here we will introduce you to the best equipment for your disability (bike, trike or tandem) and undergo a thorough assessment. The start point will offer car parking, toilets and cafe facilities. Examples are Darts Farm, Topsham or Powderham Farm Shop, Kenton or Killerton National Trust. With your trike fully adapted to your needs and bikes supplied to all family members we will set off along the traffic free path. Rides last at least 2 hours and might cover 5 to 20 miles depending on budget and ability. We ride through villages and along purpose built paths overlooking stunning views. Our role is also to point out the sights and give you the history of the landmarks and nature. After about on hour we will stop for some tea and cake at a special spot. Then the return ride back to base. We take pictures during the ride which we forward on and we map the route using Strava so you can show others what you have experienced and achieved. You are welcome to come back for more but we also offer a sales service to reproduce the equipment best for you and your location so you can go it alone and rejoin the human race wherever you live.

Learn more about Tom

Tom

I started Freetrike Rehab cycling because my Father had a stroke in 2002 that left him housebound on the edge of Dartmoor with no use of his left side. After studying Health and Social at Plymouth University I started Freetrike in 2010 offering an outreach service where we picked up housebound clients across Devon, transported them to their nearest nature path and deliver 2 hours of exercise on adapted expedition trikes. Since 2010 until Spring 2020 we have taken clients of all ages and disabilities 15,000 miles across South West England.

Where you'll be

You have 10 distinct council developed and maintained paths to choose from in Devon, that offer us over 150 miles of traffic free cycling. The shortest is the 9 mile Granite Way disused railway path, running down the western edge of Dartmoor National Park, and the Longest is the 46 mile Tarka Trail disused railway in North Devon. Our favorite is the 16 mile Exe Estuary Trail that runs each side of the Estuary from Exeter City. You choose!
