What you'll do

Our entire hike from start to finish takes place on our private property location. This hike is fully private, just you (or your group) and our guide. We will meet you in the parking lot and provide restroom break, information about our hike and snacks/water. We will hike from the parking lot up past the lower canyon heading to the upper canyon. This can take 30min to about an hour taking breaks to take pictures and point out interesting things about the Sonoran desert. Once in the upper canyon there will be ample time to view the rock drawings, take pictures and learn about the history and influence of the Hohokam people. Once everyone has enjoyed the upper canyon your guide will lead everyone down a different trail heading back towards the parking lot. This trail has the best views of the entire Valley of the Sun. About 45 minutes down the canyon back to the parking lot.
Other things to note
Please be aware of the weather when booking. This is a Sonoran desert hike that is outside in the sun. Please bring extra water, hat, sunglasses and anything else you need to protect yourself from the sun and heat (during the warmer months)

I am a lead guide at Rappel Arizona, a local Rappelling and Rock Climbing guide service in Phoenix, Arizona at the base of South Mountain. We operate on a 300 acre private property location that has a beautiful canyon with tall rock walls for climbing and rappelling and an upper canyon with shorter walls that are covered with over 200 petroglyphic rock drawings from the Native American Hohokam peoples. The hike from the lower canyon to the upper canyon is a special one gaining elevation with amazing views of the valley of the sun as well as Sonoran desert plants and wildlife. My favorite part about this amazing hike and the ancient rock drawings is all this beautiful scenery and connection to Native peoples is right here in the middle of town! The upper canyon leaves the big city views and provides a peaceful setting and cultural exp.
