What you'll do
Japanese natural dyeing experience with Sakura in Ginza. I will use branches of cherry tree for dyeing. The color will be finished in light pink or gray, so please choose the either. Step1: choose one of the new white silk stoles. Step2: Put the silk stole to Sakura dye liquid and let it soak. Squeeze the stole and exposure to the air. Repeat the soaking and dry process few times. Step 3: Fix the color. You can bring back the silk stole on the day. After the experience, I will talk about natural dyes and Japanese style weaving which I learned from Professor Shimura Fukumi, a human national treasure. Also, I will tell you about Japanese culture and Kimono. Hope this class will be unforgettable and creative memory of your travel in Japan. And please enjoy Wearing SAKURA after class and when you go back to your country!
Konnichiwa. I’m a dyeing and weaving artist. I learned dyeing and weaving from Fukumi Shimura who is Japanese Human treasure in Kyoto from 1998 to2001. After that, I stared to dye and weave at an own studio. The color from nature such as flowers, leaves, branches and roots are very beautiful and never be the same. Every time I 'm amazed by the colors. I want to share this precious experience with people.
Where you'll be
I will see you at a studio in Ginza. The studio is in the central Tokyo, Ginza. It is close from Ginza station or Higashi Ginza station by foot. Kabuki Theatre is really close from the studio, so it would be great plan to go to the theatre after the class!
