What you'll do

During this small group experience you'll walk through a rural landscape by the river and have lunch at an ecological cider house. We'll start by meeting in San Sebastian and taking a public bus to a little village called Zestoa.
There, you'll discover an off the beaten path valley and the connections with humans and nature from palaeolithical times until the medieval age, when this village was founded.
We'll walk through the old town, interpreting its most iconic buildings and understanding the keys of the past that have given shape to particular ways of living in the Basque country.
We'll then leave the town and walk trough hiking trails to other rural neighbourhoods, following down the river and admiring the quiet views of the rural landscape. During the way I'll tell you some stories about the past of this rural landscape and its connection to the present.
After a few hours we'll finally reach our lunch destination, a genuine rural cider house where the owner, who lives in the house with his family, will teach us the process involved in making his cider from the trees that he planted 30 years ago. We'll eat and drink while we admire their mountain and sea views.
We'll finally walk to my home town, Zumaia, where we'll finish this experience and you'll be able to either keep exploring the Basque coast or go back to San Sebastian by bus or train.

My name is Angel, I live in this valley and I'm an ex environmental scientist that turned into a tour guide and founded its own company, Basque Nomads. It might sound cool, but it is a one man band!
As a certified nature Interpretive tour guide, my aim is to guide you through this cultural landscape and help you understand how the environment has evolved hand in hand with the human history, while we have fun and taste the local gastronomy.
My training is on natural resources and environmental management and hence I try to be very responsible of our impacts as we travel. Also, because I'm very passionate about history and the place where I live, on my activities and experiences I search for people to connect with the heritage in a holistic way and merge with the territory in local and intimate way.
