What you'll do

We make the most of the time you have available. You will get to experience the excitement of learning how to throw on the potter's wheel. There are a number of techniques that you will learn that will help you become competent on the wheel as soon as you can. Don't worry if you have never tried the potter's wheel before or if you feel you do not have an artistic aptitude as throwing and handbuilding involve techniques that anyone with a little application can learn and the rewards are abundant. You will experience the joy of producing your own pots which you can go on to glaze, and have fired at a later time for you, so that you can keep your best attempts forever! If you also want to learn how to handbuild pots in clay, this can be included as part of your magical experience in my studio. Pottery is an extremely satisfying pastime as you can produce a variety of outcomes that you can keep or give as gifts to your loved ones. For some people it becomes a passion and they move on to producing work in clay for sale at markets and craft fairs. You will be in the hands of an expert teacher, potter and sculptor, Richard Gibson, who has endless knowledge to share and patience!

I have been a professional artist and ceramicist for over 30 years. I have taught pottery to thousands of people during that time. Whether it's throwing pots at the wheel or handbuilding pots and clay sculpture, I have the experience, patience and expertise to help you understand and put into practice all of the techniques required. I teach beginners, intermediates and advanced potters with their practice at my studio based near Stamford in Lincolnshire. The reviews I have received are an excellent testament to the satisfaction and success that my students experience in my clay classes. The classes are always restricted in numbers to ensure that you receive as much individual attention as possible and they are friendly. You get to keep the best work that you create during a class. You can choose classes ranging from 2 hours to a day
