What you'll do

We will meet by the statue of Louis XIV beside the Pyramid, our tour will last 2 hours. Limited to 6 people. The museum ticket is valid all day and you can explore the collection after the tour has finished. Stay for lunch, there are restaurants & cafés inside the museum that I can point you towards. The tour price doesn’t include the museum ticket, can you please buy it at the Louvre website. The artworks of the Louvre guard their secrets to themselves, you need to know something about the context, the background, as well as the inspiration of the society & culture that created them to reveal something of their mystery. It will be a short walk through the history of the building, & along the way taking the time to admire the masterpieces of this famous collection - Rome, Greece, Italian Renaissance, and the French Classical & Romantic art of the early 19th Century. The tour is based around the highlights of the Sully & Denon wings (Venus de Milo, Mona Lisa, Botticelli, Veronese, Titian, David, Géricault, Delacroix). If you know nothing about the French the building itself, as well as the collection, can give you an understanding of this great European nation. The highlights of the Richelieu wing would need another tour. This tour I propose is the ‘Greatest Hits’ tour that most first visitors to the Louvre like to take. Rembrandt, Vermeer, Durer, Poussin are all in Richelieu.

Damien

Come explore the museums of Paris with me. I’m an Irish artist (BA Fine Art), specialist decorator. I’m also now, for the past 6 years, a Paris Museum Guide. I’ve known the city for over 30 years, originally coming to work as a scenic artist on the Disneyland theme park. I now share my experience, knowledge and passion of art history as a professional licensed Guide-Conférencier (CNAM Paris).

Where you'll be

The Louvre has an 800 year history, starting at the Pyramid of Pei. Once inside we have 3 wings to explore Sully, Denon, Richelieu. A Medieval fortress to Renaissance Chateau, a residence for Kings & courtiers. The major renovations of Napoleon I & III transformed the building by the mid 19th Century. If we have the time I can show you the latest stunning architectural feature of the building, the wing devoted to the Arts of Islam, open in 2012.
