What you'll do
Note: We can occasionally accommodate scheduling requests, so if you don't see any workshops that fit your schedule, please get in touch - we'll do our best to set one up! In this hands-on workshop, you'll build your own skateboard deck with an experienced skateboarder and builder. First, you'll start with an uncut, molded deck. We stock double-kick boards that can be made up to 8.5" x 33", but you can upgrade to a longer board if you let me know at least 2 days in advance, depending on availability. Next, you'll create a custom template or use a pre-made template to shape the board, and cut and finish the board yourself. You'll leave with a completed skateboard deck which you can apply art to on your own time. You'll also have the option to have the board shipped to your home, so you don't need to transport it with you on the rest of your trip.
Skateboard deck supplies All materials and tools required for building a skateboard deck - you'll keep your finished deck.
I am a skateboarder (18 years of experience), mechanical engineer, and run Open Source Skateboards. I love skateboarding, and started building boards in 2014. I started Open Source Skateboards to give people the opportunity to design and build custom boards and have a great time doing it! I've taught workshops at schools and makerspaces throughout San Diego county and have made boards for customers all over the world.

Where you'll be
The workshop is run out of a makerspace in San Diego. Makerspaces are basically gyms for creatives - they have a variety of equipment (laser cutters, 3D printers, power tools, and more) that members can use. So, in addition to making your own board, you'll be able to see what other local makers are creating here in San Diego.
Keep these in mind
Any experience can be cancelled and fully refunded within 24 hours of purchase.
Always communicate through Airbnb. To protect your payment, never transfer money or communicate outside of the Airbnb website or app.
Up to 3 guests ages 8 and up can attend.
You’ll need to take a picture of yourself that matches the photo on your ID. This is so Airbnb can confirm who’s actually going on the experience. You’ll only have to do this once.
Up to 2 people may share/work on one board - you may bring one guest for no extra cost. Other skateboard parts (trucks, wheels, etc.) are not included, but can be - please let me know beforehand :).
