What you'll do

The aim of the workshop is to give guests an introduction to working with clay and the different methods used to create forms. This information will provide them with useful basic knowledge if they plan to go on to take part in more advanced courses.

10:00 - 10:30
Introduction to form-making techniques. Guests will be introduced to pinch pots, slab rolling, coil pots, and thrown pots. They will explore different types of clay and learn about their uses.

10:30 - 11:00
Guests will create a small pinch pot to get used to the feel of clay.

11:00 - 11:15
Short break. This time will be used to discuss what they have learnt and to answer any questions.

11:15 - 11:30
The guests will plan a small project to create their own pot or sculpture using the knowledge and information provided during the morning.

11:30 - 13:30
The guests will start making their work - supported and assisted by the workshop leader. All tools and materials are provided.

13:30 - 14:15
Lunch Break.

14:15 - 16:00
Guests will continue to work on their projects under the supervision of Jenny.

At the end of the workshop the guest's work can either be taken away by the guest or it can be left to dry over a two week period, bisque fired when dry, glazed, fired again, and posted to the guest for an additional fee (this will vary depending on the glaze chosen and the size of the work).
Other things to note
No experience is needed and the workshop will be based around the individual requirements and expectations of the guests. Above all the experience should be good fun and enjoyable!

I am a creative artist who makes hand built and thrown ceramics. These have been exhibited across Scotland and are now in collections in London, Canada and The United States. I like making pieces which are individual and inspired by the beautiful Moray coast. I also work as a part time art therapist and teacher and I will use these skills to create a memorable and fun experience for my guests. I have a small studio with a wheel and kiln which can accommodate up to two people.

Such a wonderful experience. Loved being artists for the day. Jenny taught us well and let us get stuck in. We had a lovely rapport and felt very welcome with coffee and homemade cake. We tried lots of different techniques and it fuelled a spark to do more once we are home. Such a treat to be just the 2 of us in the class. Jenny was very flexible with our dog coming along too. Couldn’t have been more fun. And we bought some of the beautiful artwork too, Many thanks Jenny (and Tim)

A great day out, well worth it. Jenny took us through various techniques and supported us as we practiced. Lots of opportunity to try different methods of using clay. Thoroughly enjoyable.
