What you'll do
We will walk through the beautiful WWF Natural Reserve of Tor Caldara. It faces the sea, is rich in history and Mediterranean nature, and is only 25 miles from Rome. You will see ruins of a Roman villa on the beach, the medieval watchtower (Tor Caldara or Torre delle Caldane) built against the Saracen aggression in the Middle Ages, and Roman sulfur quarries that were used until 1800. You'll also see the war trenches of 1944 because the Battle of Anzio took place here. Walking through the Mediterranean vegetation between springs and water courses, you will find sulfurous mud you can spread on your body. We well see donkeys and wild boar. At the end, in springtime and summer—and, if you are lucky, also in autumn—you can swim in the ruins of the ancient Roman port under the promontory. After this exploration, at our house on the beach, you will learn how to cook typical Italian pasta with clams and mussels—and drink a glass of white wine that we offer with love. After lunch, if you like, we can go to the Anzio port where you can buy local freshly caught fish for a very cheap price from the boats returning to port.
After hosting guests for three years, I realized that all guests loved this park, as well as Italian seafood. So we decided to merge those two factors into one experience. My partner, Cristina, is nice and outgoing, and was a great cook for many years in a fish restaurant in Anzio, and she really cooks with love. We have both been visiting the park since we were children—so we know every secret corner and will be pleased to share them with you.
