What you'll do

See the beautiful Kentish countryside and castles where King Henry VIII loved to hunt. Penshurst Place was one of his favourite hunting lodges, and nearby Hever Castle was where his second wife, Anne Boleyn grew up. Hear how the most famous king in English history spent his leisure time chasing deer and women! Potted History Tours' quirky London taxi will pick you up from Edenbridge station and transport you to these two stunning castles where you'll hear stories full of history and intrigue. There is also an option to substitute either of the above destinations for Knole House, a superb medieval deer park. Knole was another of Henry's favourite hunting grounds, and is the only one remaining in Kent. A full day tour will include TWO of these destinations. You can complete the experience with a 'Henry Ate' picnic, a Tudor feast with a modern twist that gives you a taste of what the king himself would have eaten. The taxi is a handy base so you don't have to carry your shopping, souvenirs or extra clothing around while you explore. And you don't have to worry about finding your way from one place to another.

A lifelong interest in history and culture, and a passion for conveying this to visitors made me start Potted History Tours. I love meeting new people and making them feel welcome. I want to offer visitors to the capital something a bit different that is outside the usual sightseeing destinations. People love the London cab - it's a unique way to travel and takes the strain out of getting around. Kent produces some of the best food and drink in the country. I love discovering and passing on these delicious finds to really make your experience something special.

Where you'll be

This grand day out includes visits to two great houses that were significant in Henry's leisure time. Penshurst Place was taken from the 3rd Duke of Buckingham by King Henry after he'd had the Duke executed for treason. It was a handy base for Henry to visit the love interest who was to become his second wife - Anne Boleyn grew up at Hever Castle, the second of our destinations, only a short gallop away....or a 15 minute drive in our trusty taxi!
