What you'll do
You'll step into the plant filled courtyard and reception, where we'll take your coat and invite you to leave the stress of the day behind. Sipping on a cup of tea we'll talk through your ideas for the pottery session . You'll be taken to the studio to have a 'hot wheel experience'. This is where we give you a demonstration that you participate in to really get the feel of what it is like to centre and throw on the wheel. After the demonstration you each have a wheel to work on with guidance at each stage. After an hour and a half of using all your strength at the wheel you select up to 4 pieces you've made to keep. We accelerate the drying process and while thats happening, you experience hand building via making decorations that can be added to your thrown work. In the last half hour of the session we give you the option of slip decorating the work. This involves painting a design on wet coloured clay to add surface decoration to the pieces and bring the work together as a set. By the end of the session you will have experienced the joy of: - throwing on the wheel - hand building - coil , slab or pinch - slip decorating
I started Kite Studios in 2002 inspired by a creative studio I came across in Chile. The vision is to build an inclusive community offering creative workshops to all, irrespective of age ability or income. We have run hundreds of workshops for individuals and groups at the studios and in other settings e.g. schools, offices and festivals. We are a team of artists and educators who love to share and teach art. Today we are a team of artists and educators who love to share our passion for art.
About the organisation
Kite Art CIC
Kite Art CIC (Community Interest Company) runs social projects that support both children and young adults with learning difficulties in an inclusive way. We offer subsidised art courses to local schools such as Wendell Park Primary, where we bring 10 children with a range of needs, this is known as our ' nurture group ' to the studio for art classes.
This is a social impact experience where 100% of what you pay for this experience goes to Kite Art CIC .
