What you'll do

Join me in exploring the unique attributes of wild edible and medicinal herbs found in Colorado High Country.

We will meet at a central place in Silverthorne and travel together to one of the more scenic and less traveled trails in Summit County, CO. While walking the trail, we will identify and discuss the edible/medicinal plants as they present themselves. Whether your group is a family with young children or a small group of friends, we will also integrate an appropriate hands-on activity, such as making and tasting teas, sketching the plant that catches your eye while learning about it, or creating cordage from plant fibers. Topics that are interwoven during our time together include;
• Nutritional and health benefits of wild plants
• Tea and decoction preparation
• Identification tips and poisonous look-alikes
• Ethical and legal harvesting guidelines

Your outing may be a private event or shared with others: it is your preference. Please contact me to plan your outing. I look forward to sharing the experience!

Meet your host, Tamara

Host on Airbnb since 2016
  • Identity verified
Tamara created Wild Food Company to empower people to eat healthfully and live well with the earth. Initially motivated to maximize nutrient levels and minimize chemicals in her family's food, Tamara discovered that wild foods needed to be part of the plan. Further inspired by Jo Robinson’s book Eating on the Wild Side, she started down a path that has become a passion for life.

Today, she brings her extensive knowledge of wild plants to the health conscious and the curious along Colorado’s Front Range and Summit County. She has been studying, growing, and teaching wild plants for 17+ years, with course work at Tom Brown Tracker School, School of Natural Healing in Utah, and Advanced Herbalism at Vital Ways in Oregon. She has taught at Fountain Creek Nature Center, Venetucci Farms, Denver Botanical Gardens, private schools & groups.
