What you'll do

A very unique, intensive one-to-one learning experience, offered in our lovely atelier in the center of Camaiore. You'll create your own glass beads at the torch while working with Tim, and then work with Lily to turn those beads into your own beaded necklace, bracelet and/or earrings!

Beginning with learning the basics of glass bead making (Lampworking), you will literally create, from Venetian glass rods, the beads that are to be used later in your finished piece, in the size, shape and colors that you desire. Then, using those beads, along with others you select in our studio, you will design and string your own one-of-a-kind piece, learning the most tried and true methods of jewelry design as you go.

Morning Session: Glass Bead Making (4-hrs): The course begins with a brief introduction to the equipment and safety procedures. You will then work side-by-side with Tim as he demonstrates and then helps you try your hand at various bead making techniques. After the morning session, we will break for lunch.

Afternoon: Jewelry-Making Session (2 hrs): Lily will guide you through the basics of bead-stringing and help you turn the beads you made into a lovely piece of wearable art.

I have been a professional jewelry designer and teacher for thirty years, in both the US and Europe. My husband Tim has been making handmade glass beads in the Venetian tradition for fifteen plus years, and has taught this ancient craft in both Italy and England for over a decade. Our experience will enable students to learn to make their own glass beads, using the highest quality Murano glass, in the morning with Tim, and in the afternoon they will turn the beads that they made into a lovely piece of wearable art/jewelry with Lily.
