What you'll do
We will explore my collection of behind-the-scenes film festival memorabilia chronicling five non-traditional cinema screenings in four Philadelphia neighborhoods. Along the way, you will gain insight on how locals respond to the best short films from several countries around the world. We will wrap up this experience with a private screening of shorts for you to vote on and then join me in deciding the official selections for a traveling short film showcase.
SPECIAL ENGAGEMENT OCT 26 - 30:
A private screening where you will participate in a global festival showing simultaneously across six continents, uniting 100,000 filmgoers. You will view and vote on an extraordinary range of international short films from 9 countries that are currently in the running for an Academy Award nomination. Genres include dramas, comedies and animation that address an astonishing number of themes ranging from identity to parenthood to the seemingly universal frustration caused by the Department of Motor Vehicles no matter the country. You will become an instant film critic as you receive a ballot during this experience that allows you to vote for the Best Film and Best Actor.
Other things to note
On street parking is very limited. If you can, please use a different form of transportation to and from the studio. Public transportation is nearby including a few bus routes and subway station.

I am a Philadelphia native, freelance writer and traveler who has made Award-winning short films from around the world accessible to local communities for 7 years. Where you'll be
We will be in my studio workspace at a historic Art Deco building made in the 1930s, near East Passyunk Avenue and Geno's Steaks. It operates as a production and exhibition hub for fostering community engagement and an exchange of cultures through our shared discovery of remarkable work by shorts filmmakers from across the globe. Previous visitors include a local radio show contributor, a film festival programmer and an Emmy-nominated artist.

I felt enlightened from viewing the 10-15 short films on that evening's program. Nicole (who was most patient with my tardiness during an unsufferable heatwave) selected them based on what she surmised I would enjoy; She chose with great skill & insight!! (especially the European films). She is an accomplished filmmaker herself, but she wanted to give voice to other obscure artists who deserve to be viewed & enjoyed. Artists I would not have found out about otherwise. The facility in S Philly impressed me as a beehive of creative types & alternative offerings. The "Canstruction" installation was a Gas! I didn't get the chance to take in the neighborhood, which seems less gentrified than other better known neighborhoods. Nicole, who is kind & connecting, & I had a lot to talk about; so I wish I could have stayed longer to see more of the neighborhood & her own films & more offerings at that alternative facility. So if you choose this highly worthy experience, you could ask Nicole to show her own work. And support her other film projects & happenings. Even thru cickstarter I hope......

Really enjoyed meeting Nicole, she had picked out some really great shorts which I definitely enjoyed. She was very knowledgeable and shared a lot of information on short film circuit of festivals and award eligibility. I found it all very interesting. We did hold off on starting with the shorts right away to give another guest time to arrive which unfortunately she didn’t make it and I had to leave before it was completed. But I would certainly recommend it and I intend to be back the next time I’m in Philly.
