What you'll do

Explore rare and one-of-a-kind original artifacts that tell the story of the voices, pivotal moments and profound community organizing that defined the LGBTQ movement in American history. Begin with a private tour of Stonewall Library, with more than 28 thousand LGBTQ titles representing decades of cutting edge literature and art, and an impressive array of rare and signed works, such as a signed copy of Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass, now more than one hundred years old.

Continue with a virtual tour of the current exhibition at Stonewall Museum, where historic items and research are curated to inspire thought-provoking questions and parallels to today’s issues.

And for the finale, delve into an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Stonewall Archives, typically made available only to researchers by appointment. Take part in a lively discussion as we explore the underground magazines, activist letters, bar and club posters, buttons, photos, compelling t-shirts, and other items that signify the evolution of the LGBTQ movement. Read the first issue of the oldest LGBTQ newspaper in the United States – printed on only one page. Enjoy a presentation of items from our collection donated by celebrities including Ellen DeGeneres, Harvey Fierstein, Alan Cumming, Carson Kressley, and Rosie O’Donnell.

Wonderful and educational experience! We felt very connected to the tour guide, who personalized history for us. We learned a lot and walked away with a list of things we wanted to learn more about!

If you are into books, artifacts, and queer culture, you will LOVE LOVE LOVE this experience! The hour went too fast. Emery, the host, has unbelievable insight into history, politics, pop culture, everything. He really personalized it for our group. We could have listened to story after story. I felt deeply (re)connected to a sense of community that I haven't felt in awhile, even prior to COVID-19. He gave us terrific suggestions, resources, and recommendations. We all Facetimed after and are planning to visit him in person when "the real world" opens back up again. It was genuinely special and priced so that anyone can access this terrific experience. Thank you Emery!

I had no idea the Stonewall National Museum & Archives even existed. Emery's tour will give you a sample of what is available at the museum. It is a huge collection & library that is invaluable to both the layperson slightly interested in LGBTQ+ subject matter and the academic scholar who has an interest in digging further. I was so inspired by this resource after my AirBNB Experience, that I would love to book another private session to find out more about the organization. I DEFINITELY want to visit the museum in person one day when I am able to travel again! Emery was a great host and truly seems excited and invested in sharing the rich & diverse histories of the LGBTQ+ community......I HIGHLY recommend this AirBNB experience!

I'll let my husband Thom do most of the talking (he does most of it anyway :)) but it was a GREAT and fascinating experience, joy filled and affirming, and the story he will tell you about "water color" paint is by itself worth the price of admission! Friends of Dorothy unite!

If you are a lover of queer theory and LGBT history I highly reccomend this experience! Emery was warm and friendly on arrival and his knowledge and passion for the subject really shined. He also offered lots and lots of reccomendations for further reading and documentaries to watch which I really appreciated. There was lots of information of black LGBT history too and I'm really glad this was covered.
