What you'll do

On this tour from Dupont to Shaw, two of Northwest DC's liveliest and tastiest neighborhoods, you'll get a taste of the city's vibrant local food movement, literally and figuratively, as well as experience a bit of DC culture and history.

German brewmaster Christian Heurich drank a beer a day and lived to be 103. He also made a fortune on it and built a beautiful castle in DC. We'll start at the Heurich House for a quick tour of the exterior, and pass by the fountain at Dupont Circle, before moving onto the Dupont's Farmer's Market, one of the few in the area to operate year-round. We'll have a chance to chat with farmers, cheesemakers, brewers and distillers, and purchase their wares.

Next, we'll take an Uber to the LeDroit/Shaw area, a historic African American neighborhood, stopping at a no-name corner known for pumping go go beats, DC's unique homegrown sound. We'll walk a few blocks to visit the historic Howard Theater and murals before our final stop, Right Proper Brewery, a neighborhood brewpub to sample tasty yeast-focused beers. Bon appetit!

Other things to note:
This can be customized to focus on the LeDroit/Shaw area and include a cidery instead of the Dupont sites. I can provide Saturday tours or Sunday afternoon with this alteration.

We will end in a different location than the start, about 1.5 miles away.

I bought this experience for my mom for her birthday and it was so much more than they expected! We are from the DC area but the spots they were taken to were so unique and they still talk about it! They had such a good time and met some amazing people. April was so accommodating and made everyone feel comfortable and able to enjoy their time, even with Covid 19. 10/10!!!

April's experience was excellent. She was communicative, professional, knowledgeable, and, most importantly, a really neat human being to spend an afternoon with. Highly recommended.

April is a great tour guide because she has lived in the city for a long long time and therefore has some insider insight that you can’t really find anywhere else. She is also well travelled and has a unique way of comparing and contrasting DC with other global cities. My favorite part of the tour were the farmers market and the murals near the Howard Theater. Great tour and well worth the money.

April's Farmers & Brewers tour is a great way to experience some of the special treats that Washington DC has to offer. April guided us through a wonderful farmers market, where we were able to sample many of the delicous foods and drinks. Everything from Kambucha, cheeses, fruits, beers and liquores. Before we ended the tour at a brewery, we strolled through one of the city's historic districts where April explained the history and pointed out many of the murals and special landmarks of the area. It was fun and educational. We highly recommend this tour! Christa & Brian

Chatty and fun. Good taste in bars and restaurants. She was really into talking about the history of the neighborhoods we walked through, which was a nice change in pace. One suggestion- maybe she could take people on a tour to a place like Heurich House, when it's open? Thanks April!
