What you'll do

This 4-mile circular walk explores the ancient town of Arundel, the surrounding countryside and parkland.

Our walk starts with an introduction to Arundel walking uphill along cobbled streets and into the parklands of the castle. Along the way, I'll point out the most interesting and oldest buildings, my favourite quirky independent shops, and the best places to eat and drink, mixed up with a little local history and stories about some of Arundel's many ghosts.

Passing a majestic folly, we'll look out from a hilltop with views of the South Downs and a beautiful valley, that's particularly stunning in autumn, before continuing down along a gentle slope down through the trees and around a small lake. Along the way, I'll share local folktales and folklore.

Our route then leads us along the banks of the river through the countryside leading us back to the heart of Arundel in time for lunch. Please note, if the riverbank path is too muddy we will return via an alternative route.

By the end of our walk, you'll have gained a fascinating insight into local people our traditions and folklore.

I've lived in West Sussex all my life and love sharing this beautiful corner of the county, its traditions, history, folklore and countryside.

I've been leading walking tours locally for over two years, telling tales from long ago (both fact and fable), while exploring the loveliest and most interesting footpaths.

We went on this walk after the Halnaker tour with Kathryn. The views over the south downs national park were stunning. Kathryn had excellent knowledge about the history and folklore of Arundel. We went as a group of 6 and all had a great day out! Would highly recommend!

Kathryn is a lovely, chatty and knowledgable guide. We were asked if we had any particular interests, so the tour could be tailored individually, which was a lovely touch. She made it fun and interesting; if you have children who like to hear about ghosts, dragons or fairies, do try her as a tour guide!
