What you'll do
You will learn to break down ideas into simple line and thread drawings, use cloth instead of paint and learn to embroider text. All of which is taught in a relaxed, stress-free environment. You can expect to go home with at least one completed textile picture.
I come from a family of Needlewomen and learned to embroider and knit before I could read and write. I have a Masters in Fine Art from UCT and have done my practical work mostly by Stitching in one way or another. Being an avid journal keeper I combined my stitching with what happens in my life around me. Sometimes, funny, quirky moments find their way into my little textile pictures, other times, they are more abstract. In 2016 I started a project, making one textile picture per day, which resulted in 366 daily embroideries. The work has been shown in a few exhibitions and resulted in a Book.
