Experience hosted by Timothy

90 mins
Includes equipment
Up to 2 people
Hosted in English

What you'll do

You'll start with a tour of the woodworking studio of world-renowned master craftsman, Timothy Coleman, who has been designing and building one-of-a-kind furniture for more than 35 years in a shop he built a few paces from his home in rural New England. Timothy will demonstrate some of his many surface decoration techniques, including marquetry, parquet veneer work and low relief carving. You'll then try your hand at one of his signature techniques--steel stamping on wood--and have plenty of time to experiment with Timothy's coaching. All of the tools and materials you need will be provided and you'll leave with your steel stamping sample board as a memento of the magic of working with wood.
Other things to note
To make this experience safe in Covid times, I am limiting participants to 2 people maximum and will be running a HEPA air purifier in the woodshop as well as leaving some doors and windows open. Masks are required, too.

We stopped at Tim's workshop on our way up from north Jersey to a long weekend in Vermont, and I'm so glad we did! We have always had an interest in building things, and done a few of our own projects over the years, but nothing like Tim's work. He's truly an artist and it was a privilege to tour his studio. He talked us through his creative process, let us check out (and try out!) his impressive tools, and showed us how he achieves his stunning woodworking techniques. Most people have seen fine furniture, but this is a special opportunity to get up close and personal with partially-done pieces and appreciate the thought and craftsmanship that goes into them. Tim is down-to-earth, full of great stories, and conscientious of safety and COVID guidelines. He was able to work around our travel schedule and made sure we had a great time during our visit. We will be back to see what else Tim is working on next time we're passing through.
