What you'll do
Cork Whiskey Walk is a half-day tour (4 hours) that will give you a great insight into Irish history, Cork's vibrant culture and local food and drink. Introducing a history that you can actually taste and feel, we start our journey in Cork's first microbrewery, the Franciscan Well, to enjoy wood-fired pizza's and a Jameson Caskmates craft beer & whiskey pairing. From there we will go back in time, starting at the site of a historic Leeside distillery first founded in 1779, to learn about pious Gaelic chieftains, rebel Cork chancers, wealthy Merchant Princes, miserly old distillers and the unique history and craft of traditional Irish Pot Still whiskey. We then meander paths less traveled, to experience Cork from a different perspective. Further stops, amidst the moody surroundings of hard-to-find Georgian and Victorian era establishments, provide the ideal atmospheres in which to immerse ourselves in local banter, fascinating Cork stories and a curated selection of craft beers, food and whiskeys.
Born and reared in Cork city, I work as a Stillman in a local whiskey distillery. As co-founder of Cork Whiskey Society and feature writer for Irish Whiskey magazine, I love sharing my passion for Corkonian food and drink (especially whiskey). Over the course of four hours I'll share fascinating stories that breathe renewed life into crumbling Leeside buildings, forgotten medieval alleyways and interesting historical characters. By sampling locally crafted beer, food and whiskeys, we'll eat and drink our way through the history of the Rebel county!

Where you'll be
The Franciscan Well led the way for the craft brewers of Ireland and was the birthplace for the latest Irish whiskey brand to excite the world. The hard-to-find Georgian & Victorian-era taverns selected as stops on my route will remain a secret to us locals - unless you become a local for the day by joining me on Cork Whiskey Walk! A window to the past, few genuinely traditional establishments, such as these, have managed to survive intact.
