Herstory; a Feminist Tour of Britain

London, United KingdomPart of Airbnb Online Experiences

Online experience hosted by Amy

  1. 90 mins
  2. Hosted in English

What you'll do

Do you know the difference between a Suffragette and a Suffragist? How many years you get in prison for interrupting Winston Churchill? How sheep stopped women from graduating in medicine?

This powerful online experience combines two highly-rated Airbnb Experiences (with over 250 5* reviews!) exploring the history of British feminism.

Using photographs, maps & props, we'll travel virtually across the UK to meet fierce women from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales who changed the course of British history. From scientists and activists to creatives and downright bad-ass women who said "no" to the patriarchy (and often paid the price). You'll hear stories from the early 19th century to the 2010s which will show you who really runs the world (do I hear "girls!"?).

Make the experience as interactive as you'd like by answering pop-quiz questions and guessing the ending to stories. We LOVE questions, so don't be shy! You'll meet other people from across the world who are passionate about equality - what could be better?

This experience is fantastic for team building and corporate events. Book a private instance now or get in touch with your bespoke needs. This experience is rated a solid PG13 (strong language), so let us know if you are bringing any littl'uns.

Looking forward to stamping through the shards of the glass ceiling with you.

I could take this tour from Seoul Korea, as it is online. (the best part) Her storytelling is amazing. She spoke really clearly and slowly for me as my English is not my first language. She made it comfortable to ask any questions and for me to not feel embarrassed. Her enthusiasm has become one of biggest inspiration - for my personal journeys in Korea !

i learned about never-before-learned women like the "princess" of teh suffragettes, black & scottish nurse mary seagall (nurse), and the 1st 7 female drs' dangerous attempts to becoming drs. those men who went after them were nuts! they were med students learning how to become drs who hated them! their queen victoria hadn't bothered to help them! it's told by sophie, amy's employee and the blurb is misleading due to it being outdated: american history is briefly mentioned and it's from 1800s-mid 1900s, not 1st century ce 'til trump's america. there isn't info about celtic queen boudica or her daughters. queens mary i, elizabeth i, mary ii, anne, and the controversial mathilda lady of the english or lady jane grey weren't included either.

Sophie gives a fascinating history of Women in the UK, she is an engaged story teller and her detail makes you feel like you really know the women she presents. She brings forth the intersections of gender, race and class from the 1800’s to present day. I highly recommend this experience.
