What you'll do
After quick personal introductions, and outfitting everyone with binocular sets, we will cover quick basics on binocular use. Some quick tips will help you practice, so you don't miss the good birds (you need to be fast, because the birds are fast). We will set out on foot to explore different habitats in the Fells in search of the diverse bird species residing or migrating through. As we see birds, we will not their ID characteristics including, colors, shape, behaviors, and songs. For our tour, we will develop a count-list of all the birds we observe (by sight and sound), and afterwards our observations will be entered into the eBird online database, where they can be used by scientists to understand bird population changes in the Fells. This tour can run at any time of year, although March-October is best. Currently the Fells has 163 documented species. Let's see if we can add some. If you do not see a date and time fits your schedule, I might be able to make the schedule work for you or your group. Other related AirBNB Experiences offered are Marginal Way Birding (Portsmouth, NH), Birding the Middlesex Fells (Boston, MA), and White Mountains Birding (North Conway, NH).

I hold university degrees in marine biology, evolutionary biology, and ecology, and I am currently employed at a major university. An avid hiker, birder, and experienced naturalist, I love to share my experience and knowledge with others eager to learn, explore, or just give it a try. I have been teaching ornithology and birding for 20 years and I regularly lead trips to Plum Island and NH's White Mountains. In 2016, I started Open World Explorers, where I serve as a birding coach and guide. SOLO Wilderness First Aid Certified.
