Bamboo shoot harvesting and cooking

Bamboo shoot harvesting and cooking

This April we will do the seasonal spring activity of harvesting bamboo shoots (Takenoko) and cook with it, so after a cup of tea or coffee to know each other a little more we will get some gloves and head for the nearby bamboo forest. There we will talk about bamboo, how to spot the best Takenoko and dig them up…

Stephane & Alex

Hello, Alex and I, Stephane, have been in Japan for 15 years and fell in love with the people and the culture. Especially with Japan's nature and countryside. We want to share our passion and knowledge of all the seasonal rituals that punctuate the rural life of Japan. In our little valley of Jike we'll make you discover bamboo shoot harvesting, Mochi pounding, flowing somen, bamboo craft, Miso making, rice planting and harvesting, and more.

Where you'll be

The valley of Jike is like an island of nature in the middle of the city. Small but vast at the same time, you could spend several days exploring it. Still, our place, the bamboo groves and the forest trails are all there nearby. Looking at a map you could say we'll go round in a big circle going through a whole range of typical Japanese sceneries.
