What you'll do

The class is a 4 hour long hands-on session. On arrival you will have freshly made tea (real tea) or coffee, and some scones with home-made jam. You will start by making a traditional Irish soda bread which is baked in the oven. While that is baking you will learn about another Irish tradition - griddle bread. Griddle bread is baked on the stove top..... there is nothing quite like the taste of fresh hot griddle bread. Finally, you will make Focaccia, which is a departure from the traditional 'Irish', but this recipe works really well with a choice of toppings. Once the baking is over, we will sit down to a light two course lunch made with produce grown here on our smallholding. And of course enjoy some of the bread you have made yourself!

Alfie

We both learned to cook/bake at our Nanas' side. Alfie and I continue that baking tradition in our home. Each of us taking pride in making different styles of bread from sourdough and naan, to a traditional Irish Soda bread. There are many pisogues (fairytales) about the various types of Irish Soda bread and we look forward to sharing these stories with you on your visit. You will discover the delights and tastes of real homemade bread.

Where you'll be

Classes are hosted on our small-holding in North Tipperary. You will be welcomed into our home with tea/coffee. Classes will take place in our farm kitchen.
