What you'll do
Meet the common plants of Northwoods forests and fields during the Lily Springs Woodland Plant ID. tour!
Our tour will begin at the edge of the pine forest, where we'll briefly discuss the natural history of this region. As we walk the forest trails we'll move through red pine stands, oak groves, birch-lined lakeshore, and white pine meadows. In each location, Elle will point out the typical plant communities and help participants learn simple plant identification tricks. Depending on the season, we may come across sensitive spring ephemerals, summer wildflowers in their full glory, or the golden foliage of autumn shrubs.
Guests will meet some of the common herbaceous and woody plants of this region and learn simple tips for plant ID, helping them continue this skill on future hikes. As Elle's first botany teacher always reminded her: "When you know the names, habits, and relationships of plants around you, you'll never hike alone again."
