What you'll do

You and your party will trek with Llamas and Alpacas on a private wilderness trail. The experience is on technical terrain on the Bruce Peninsula Biosphere.
Treks starts off with a familiarity session on how to lead a Llama and Alpaca at the barn. Some of the Llamas and Alpacas are outfitted with packs to haul refreshments, first aid supplies and hygiene products.
Following the familiarity session, we leave from the barn. There are over 10 kms of trails and we choose a suitable route depending on the season and weather. We have a special groomed route for winter when there is snow and follow various other routes.
During the trek guests are encouraged to take as many photos as they want. Groups are limited to people that are in your own "Bubble" to comply with COVID protocols. We will all wear masks while introducing the guest to their Llama or Alpaca and the masks may be removed once the trek has begun.
We have only seen smiles from all who have taken a trek. Llamas have a special quality of bringing a calming effect on trekkers. You will enjoy a wilderness hike on our private trails that the public does not have access to. There are many other animals and birds that you may have the opportunity to view or see their tracks. The trails have lots of elevation changes, exposed rock and some dirt sections. You will leave knowing you made a new soft & furry friend.

Mary and Keith went Llama Trekking 15 years ago and never stopped talking about it. We want to share our joy of llamas and alpacas with others. They have such a calming demeanor that can only be experienced in person. As a Registered Veterinary Technician, Mary has been working at the University of Guelph with animals for over 40 years. Keith had horses as a child and the passion for animals lasted a lifetime.
Mary and Keith are avid outdoorspeople who love dog walking, hiking, trail running, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, mountain biking, kayaking and camping.

Where you'll be

Forty Hills Ranch is situated on the Bruce Peninsula Biosphere, it is a World renowned area for its natural beauty. We live in a dark sky area with crystal clear waters. The property consists of 137 acres that can only be accessed by guests, the public does not have access to any of it. This makes trekking even more personal and secluded. The property has a variety of tree species, plus birds and animals, including the massasauga rattlesnake.

A perfect adventure! Keith and Mary were warm and friendly as they introduced us to the llamas and made sure we were comfortable before heading out for our trek. We walked and talked through the stunning private forest trail before heading back to the ranch and being introduced to the llamas, alpacas, and chickens. Overall fantastic experience and we will for sure be back for more.
