What you'll do

If you’re looking for “off-the-beaten-path” trails near Half Moon Bay then this is the walk for you! Immerse yourself in the Eucalyptus grove in El Granada, about 5 miles north of Half Moon Bay. Keep an eye out for various plants and wildlife and discuss which ones are harmless or harmful. Find out about other trails and places to eat from a local. Learn about the history of El Granada during railroad days and WWII. Come as an individual, couple, group, or family. Leave with newfound friends!

The El Granada Quarry is a County Park that offers loop trails from 1 to 4 miles with a moderate incline. We can choose our route depending on your interest and fitness levels. There is also a small pond and a Labyrinth made of stones on the Quarry floor. At the top of the trail is a beautiful view of the iconic Half Moon Bay Harbor (weather permitting). The walk is enjoyable anytime of year.

After the walk, we’ll meet at The Barn for burgers (or other food that meets your dietary needs). There is an outdoor eating area that provides a lot of room for social distancing.

I grew up in El Granada and I’ve seen it grow from a small fishing and farming town into a “resort” town. I enjoy running or biking through the trails and I appreciate sharing that experience with others. I’m aware of the plants, insects, and snakes that are harmless or harmful. I’m enthusiastic about meeting new people and I’d love to share my knowledge of the local trails, eateries, and history of the area.

Where you'll be

We’ll meet at the front gate inside the small parking lot of the El Granada Quarry County Park. Quarry Park is tucked back in the hills behind El Granada, across HWY 1 from the Half Moon Bay Harbor. There is a community garden and playground next to the small parking lot. This is a dog-friendly County Park. El Granada is 20 miles south of San Francisco and 60 miles north of Santa Cruz, on the coast.
