About your host

I am an artist with the 10 steps of permission for calligraphy—and it is one of the highest-level permissions that can be accomplished by a calligrapher in Japan. I have been doing calligraphy for approximately 20 years, since I was a primary school child. Calligraphy is a big part of my life, and I enjoy sharing it with anyone in the whole world.

What we’ll do

You can learn the basics of writing, including how to hold a brush. By the end of the experience, you will be able to write your own name in kanji characters. After the calligraphy experience, we will discuss today's experience while eating Japanese sweets and drinking tea. Also, as a souvenir, you can take home the coaster on which you wrote your own name.

Because you will be using ink, your clothes may get dirty.
