What you'll do

Walking in Monk's trail to reach a 1000m high holy temple.

Start your day with a sacred journey!

We’ll walk in the same trail where monks and Buddhists did decades ago and it shows how tough and dedicated they are passing 2 temples Wat Pha Lat (왓파랏) and Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep (왓 프라탓 도이수텝) the majestic temple that contains Buddha relics. Don’t worry about walking down as a transportation will be provided.

5:30 AM meet me at the foothill. The easy way is using a Grab Car or I can help arrange transportation.

The trail split into 2 parts. The first, started in the dark and it is a 35 mins pleasant walk. We may meet a monk who walks down from their monastery. Then, we’ll reach a first temple Wat Pha Lat a beautiful hidden gem in the middle of the forest. It’s a time for a break, learning a Buddhism story and enjoy a serene sunrise.

After that, a real hike begins! Second part is a much more challenge, 55 mins hike mostly uphill. We'll see a small waterfall and a different personal side of Chiang Mai. At the end of the trail 1000m height above sea level, We'll reach the main road near Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep temple. There will be free time for you to explore the area on your own. I'll stay outside and arrange transportation to get us down and drop you at Nimman Rd. or CMU.

Please Note: During Mar-Sep, it's a period that you may not see the sunrise as it maybe cloudy but the forest unleash another beautiful mist scenery :-)

"The mountain are calling" I and my wife move back to Chiang Mai. When I was young, I study at Bangkok Christian College and ask myself which religion am I will follow. Finally, I decided to become a monk for periods of time. I also love hiking and visit the Himalayas area like Nepal, Leh, Sikkim, India including places of pilgrimage and Sri Lanka that expanded my view of Buddhism. This experience is great for everyone who is looking for an outdoorsy activity in the city area and the history behind the trail. We are so excited to meet you, let's walk together!

Where to even begin! Our wonderful guides were so patient, helpful, kind, and incredibly knowledgeable! We began the day, or still night rather, with a zip up to our hike starting point where we were given head lamps and walking sticks for the trek along with a bottle if water. After a shortish climb we arrived at our first temple. In all my years never have I laid eyes on such magnificence. Almost apart of the surrounding forest the temple was all but deserted. We watched a pink orb ascend into the hazy sky as we sipped warm tea and munched on apples. Our guide, having been a monk himself was an absolute wealth of knowledge!! I was simply awestruck by the Buddhist history lesson we were regaled by. He was incredibly engaging and happy to answer every one of my many questions. The second part of the hike is a bit more intense. We were given even more water and set off at an easy pace, comfortable for everyone in the group. We stopped frequently and had lots of laughs along the way. The second temple is simply indescribable. A golden oasis in the sky we were toired around and enlightened even further as to the history and beliefs of the Buddhist religion. After the tour we all piled into our private, fore engine red taxi and zoomed back to Chiang Mai. A fellow hiker and I, dying for a bowl of noodles, were taken all the way to the restaurant thanks to our guide. I cannot recommend this experience enough. It was an incredibly moving, spiritual, educational morning. Thank you so much for this absolute gift of a morning!!

Seeing the hidden temple at the break of sunrise was quite peaceful and serene. Since we started so early we were the first tourists there and had the place to ourselves. The hike from there to the top of the mountain was grueling, but if I did it, I'm sure you can too. Definitely worth the trip. Once at the top, the hosts went into detail about what we were seeing. He was very knowledgable about Buddhism and the life of the most recent Buddha and was eager to teach. If you want to get in a good hike and learn a lot about Buddhism then this is perfect for you!

This is an unforgettable experience to walk on this trail in the morning darkness. The small temple hidden in the forest is very tranquil & has a meditative atmosphere in the dawn time. We were lucky to see the beautiful sunrise there. The way from Pha Lat Temple up to Suthep Temple is a bit harder but time flied quickly as we chatted along. There was only me joining but Nutth and his wife still conducted this activity with love and care. Nutth is an amazing person himself with lots of stories and especially Bhuddist philosophies to share. He was very attentive to my feelings and needs all the way and gave me some very good tips on travelling in Chiang Mai. Thank you again Nutth for your wonderful host on that special morning! Wish to see you again. I will apply for your activity next time I come to Chiang Mai!
