What you'll do
Uji is known for its green tea and matcha. For a long time, aristocrats have loved this area and have built their villas here. Starting from the train station, we will walk the lovely streets where you can find several 500-year-old tea shops. Later we will go to the Byodoin Temple, a famous and wonderful 11th-century Buddhist temple that is now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Afterwards we will walk along the scenic riverside and go to a restaurant that serves green tea cuisine, such as green tea soba noodles. Afternoon, we will then take a train and go to Fushimi, the sake district. Sake is not only for drinkers. Sake is not only for drinking—we use it to make sweets and beauty cosmetics too. Even if you don't drink alcohol or are not of legal drinking age, you can still enjoy this experience. Fushimi is a cozy local town, located between Kyoto and Osaka. It is a peaceful place to walk around. First, we will learn about sake culture by visiting the sake museum. Then we will visit a local confectionary shop, which sells sake sweets. Then I'll bring you to my favorite sake breweries to enjoy tasting and shopping.

Hello! I'm Akari. I'm an English-speaking Tour Guide and Online Japanese Teacher in Kyoto, Japan. I have lived in the sake brewery area of Fushimi, Kyoto from 2010 to 2011. There I was working at a advertising agency and the Fushimi tourism association, editing the town magazine, and organizing sake events. Since the Fushimi sake area and Uji green tea area are so close to one another, I like to direct overseas guests to visit both in the same day. The tour is based on my previous career, and my experiences with tasting all kinds of Sake in Kyoto. I hope to bring you along!

Where you'll be
We'll meet at the station, then I'll take you to Green Tea Town and Sake town. During this experience, you'll enjoy good food and drinks, but you'll also see beautiful scenery. The route we'll walk will provide us with pretty river views. Also, compared to the central parts of Kyoto, these areas are not that crowded yet, so we'll have a relaxed visit.
