What you'll do
This is a cultural beer tour in the Ouseburn Valley, where Newcastle's industrial revolution began. Now it's Newcastle's creative centre, buzzing with breweries, cafes and restaurants. It also has the National Archive of the Children's Book, Seven Stories, Victoria Tunnel Tours, and the Ouseburn City Farm. It was described recently in the Guardian Newspaper as " the Shoredich of Tyneside"! We meet at the Biscuit Factory, Newcastle's independent contemporary art gallery. Then it's a leisurely walk downhill. You can buy a variety of beers in 4 of the pubs and breweries in the area. (We suggest you buy half pints as it's a long afternoon!) The first stop is at one of the oldest established pubs in the area and the last one boasts Newcastle's best view of the the river and its bridges. In between, we'll visit two more, each with a unique character & many beers. During the tour there's a 5-10 minute walk to a local craft brewery where you can see the whole brewing process. Then it's back to the best view on Tyneside where the tour ends. After that you are free to go back along the Tyne to the city centre quayside where there are more great pubs (about 20 mins). Or you can choose to go back to your favourite pub from our tour and maybe call an Uber to get you home.
As part of the tour we'll go behind the scenes at one of the Ouseburn's top breweries. Tasting flights & food are available…
Tania & Donald
We have a lifetime's experience of making, drinking and enjoying beer, and we're lucky to have some great independent craft beer pubs and micro-breweries right on the doorstep. We've lived in the area since we were students (quite a while ago!), and have watched with pleasure as the craft beer movement has taken over. Newcastle's pubs now have a great selection of different beers, quite different to Newcastle Brown Ale. Which has its place, but things have moved on a bit. We will take you for a cultural tour of independent pubs in the historic Ouseburn Valley, Newcastle's new creative centre.

Where you'll be
This experience will take about 3 hours in total, and includes walking, crossing roads, and some steep steps! After 3 Ouseburn pubs, there's a short walk to a local brewery for a tour, and you can also buy a flight of 4 beers. There are food platters available too. Then it's back to the pub with the river view; our tour finishes here. It's a 20 minute walk back along the riverside, or you can settle in and call an Uber later to take you home!
