Since moving to New York City in 2016, I have found a particular interest in LGBTQ history, especially as a queer man. I am also a writer on LGBTQ topic and themes. For the past three years, I have been doing research on the Stonewall Riots and LGBTQ-related history for a historical fiction book. In 2018, I founded Christopher Street Tours, an LGBTQ-owned and operated walking tour company that focuses on LGBTQ history.

This experience was amazing! I’ve always known that New York had taken a huge part in the Gay Liberation, but this tour made it even more real and taught me new facts that aren’t very popular. Michael was a great host and his expertise in the subject made the tour even more unique. Definitely one of the highlights of my trip!

This was undoubtedly the single most fun and powerful tour I’ve ever been on... and I’ve been on quite a few tours in various countries, both queer and otherwise. What made this tour stand out is that it felt extremely personal, Michael (our exceptional tour guide) actively engaged us in discussions even if they veered slightly off topic, and it was clear that this was a very personal and meaningful experience for all involved. Michael is absolutely the best tour guide I could have asked for... he’s funny, interesting, and feels sorta like the teacher/professor you always wanted, the kind you see in aspirational high school-related movies but rarely in real life. He took the time to give us insightful answers to all our questions and made us feel validated for having those questions, which in turn encouraged us to be even more forthcoming, making the tour a lot more engaging and immersive than they usually are. Anyway... to put it simply, you gotta go for it, you just gotta!

Fantastic experience! Michael obviously has a great passion for the subject, and is eager to share it with his guests. The tour was filled with fascinating bits of local lore and community culture. I highly recommend this tour for all LGBT+ visiting NYC, and anyone outside of the community who wishes to learn more about an often neglected aspect of American history.
