What you'll do
This experience has an early start in the day, as we will visit a local street market - and make our lunch in "real time" as it were, like any other Brazilian household. One: We make a nice cup of coffee, sit down at the kitchen table, and spend a few minutes getting to know each other. Max. five people. Two: Sjur will give a brief introduction to everyday dishes in Brazil, and will present a handful of dishes, which we will then start to make. We go to the local market to get the additional products and to familiarize ourselves a little with the Brazilian markets. Three: We return to Sjur's house and finish cooking. All methods are explained, and you get hands-on experience. We visit a few neighbors for some peeps into their typical, Brazilian, favela kitchens, and to get some cooking tips. Four: We finish off making a refreshing caipirinha, and then simply eat our classic Brazilian, unpretentious lunch. 6 hours in total, 0800 to 1400
Sjur Midttun is a Norwegian food writer. Learn how to cook Brazilian everyday classics like rice and beans, farofa, and a standard salad, in addition to main courses like a meat stew, a chicken stew, and a few other typical dishes. Stews are important in Brazilian cooking, and the secret is the pressure cooker. We will learn to use this. This micro-course takes place in Sjur's house, but we will visit a neighbor and have a peep into her pans and a quick taste of a caipirinha, and a few beats of a samba, before we lunch at the terrace of Sjur's house. Food and drinks included.
Soft drinks, wine, beers
