About your host

Cooking has been my passion since I was a teen. I have learned the secrets of mexican cooking at my grandmother's elbow, and enjoy sharing it with freinds and family as well as in cooking classes. Food is culture and character, and markets are a perfect showcase for that. Come with me to learn a bit about our traditions and festivities related with food while we explore the diverse spices,…

What we’ll do

We will visit a local market and it's surroundings in a popular, commercial neighborhood to discover diverse foods. You will have the opportunity of sampling the fruit of the season, observe exotic vegetables, herbs, cheese and other curious preparations, and try a delicious piece of "pan dulce", our mexican sweet breakfast (or bedtime!) bread. While we do that I will tell you about the origins…

What else you should know

Some things might tempt you, consider bringing some cash for a little shopping. I will be glad to assist. Not recommendable for people on wheel chairs or baby carriages because of narrow aisles.

What I’ll provide

Snacks
Fruit, bread, sherbert The fruit will be provided by me previously prepared. Also sample delicious local bread and craft sherbert.

What to bring

Confortable shoes, drinking water if desired.

Where you'll be

The neighborhood of Santa Teresita or "Santa Tere" is one of the most busy, popular neighborhoods in the city. It's a very commercial place (you can find almost anything there) but families still live around. There are no monuments or historical sites but it's perfect to experience mexican quotidian life. You will see colorful piñatas, traditional outfits, all kinds of food, and of course, it's food market, which is small but has all we need.
