What you'll do

Sloth's Territory is a total trail of 1300 meters, which extends along a natural forest surrounded La Havana River, into a total property of 10 hectares.
At your arrival you will park at the Rodriguez Family's House, owners of Sloth's Territory. Their house works as reception, so it is a meet up point for waiting the start time of the activity.
Right at the moment of your arrival, you will be greeted and welcomed of one of their family (normally Oscar, Keylor or Mauricio and the ones leading the project and the activity).
During the hike, the trail allows you to enjoy a gallery forest with lush vegetation and giant tree; constituting the habitat of many species like: opossums, two and tree-toed sloths, howler monkeys, blue jeans frogs, porcupines and many birds such as toucans, motmots, tiger herons, kingfishers tanagers and much others.
But the main attraction are the sloths watching and the blue jeans frog watching. The Rodriguez Family have months of daily counting the sloths and we are sure that you will have the chance to see between 3 and 12 different sloths (from two and three toed-sloths).
The duration of this activity can be from 1,5 to 2 hours, all depends if you want to focus just on the sloths or if you are interest of watching more plants and animals.
Other things to note
The hike is done in a natural environment, that's why we can't guaranty a 100% observation of named animal in the descriptions, but by our daily monitoring we know that it is very possible.

I have more than 3 years offering lodging through Airbnb, most of them as superhost. I love nature and I love to share experiences with different cultures. I found out the Rodriguez family have an amazing and natural property they have protected and reforesting for many years and they were planning to open up to tourist, so I decided to help them out trough my knowledge and being a platform for offering their incredible product to visitor in La Fortuna area.
Their passion to nature and to conservation will mesmerize you, they are a loving and care family just starting to meet the tourism industry and willing to protect the nature and specially the sloths and different fauna which habits in their land.

Where you'll be

This hike is done along La Havana River, considering the ground, it is accessible for all ages and during the activity, you will have the chance to see different kind of animal in a completely natural environment. Since it is a natural and protected environment, we are not allowed to touch any of the animals, we are not allowed to feed them. Some animals are very sensible, like frogs since they get hurt by the chemical products in our skin.

We had a fantastic time on the tour. Ruben was our guide and did a great job of keeping us entertained and well-informed. We saw six sloths and many other exciting Costa Rican animals. Well worth the money, and you get beautiful views of the volcano as well if you’re lucky! Definitely would recommend!!

It was an amazing experience! We got to see several sloths and different animals. The guide was really nice and he was very knowledgeable about the animals and nature in general. The fruit at the end was great!

Loved everything about it. Our guide, Ruben, was hands down the best and super knowledgeable about the ecosystem and the animals. In addition to finding sloths, we also found monkeys which made the experience much more awesome. I would recommend to take the tour in the morning so you can see more frogs and overall animals when they are waking up. I would definitely recommend this!

i really like what this family is trying to do to conserve their land. This is a must do. They also take a scope that is used to take photo and video. I had a great time on both the day and night tour. try to do both.

This was a great way to kick off my stay in La Fortuna. Place is well maintain and they keep making it better. They have a lot of respect for the sloths, and you can tell they do their best to make sure they are safe and comfortable. I like places like this. They also do their best to make sure you get good pictures without interrupting the environment.
