What you'll do

I will guide you on a gorgeous circular route in Morwenstow taking us through some of the Southwest's most remote, wild and spectacular terrain which has a rich and fascinating history. This route packs in a lot of different elements and includes a section along some of Cornwall's highest and wildest clifftops, follows a secluded hidden valley, and passes through peaceful meadows and ancient churchyards.

Along the way you we will take in the incredible views, stop at some amazing local spots and learn about the rich and wild history of an area best known for shipwrecks, smuggling and eccentric poets. We will pass through Morwenstow church and it's spectacular clifftop setting and stop at Hawker's hut, a tiny shelter set into the cliff face which was built out of shipwrecked wood in 1843.

The route will take between 1.5 and 2.5 hours depending on walking pace but the route can be changed easily to meet your needs. We can vary the distance of the tour as well, ranging from 1.5 mile route to a 4 mile one.

I can offer you a unique combination of my expert local knowledge and many years experience working as a nature guide and wilderness skills instructor. I am a certified wilderness guide trained in Finland and have since led hundreds of expeditions all over the world. I have over 15 years of hiking, guiding and teaching experience, including being the first person to complete the 4,400 km Pacific Crest Trail in 2016. Where you'll be

The route is a combination of seldom used footpaths, the South West coast path and woodland trails. This section of the coast is wild, spectacular and extremely varied. Thankfully it's still way off the beaten track due to it's remoteness and inaccessibility. However this remoteness comes at a price, as unfortunately the meeting point is near impossible to reach without a car, so please don't book this hike unless you have your own transport.

If you are coming to the north Cornwall coast, I thoroughly recommend spending a couple of hours with David walking the coastal path. He took us on a route with magnificent views of the cliffs and beaches and shared stories about local history and his family. David is a wilderness guide who really knows about the local ecology. It was a really wonderful experience - not to be missed!

I was a little nervous about this as I’m quite shy but I have to say it was a fabulous experience. The scenery was stunning and watching the gently rolling ocean from a craggy outcrop was magical. David was a fabulous guide, sharing interesting insights into local history history and geography. The conversation flowed naturally and easily and I felt as though I was walking with a friend. A huge thank you and I would whole heartedly recommend this experience.

David takes you on an absolutely picturesque walk along the northern Cornish coast that would have been difficult for a newcomer to the area to discover. The coastal views will forever be embedded in my memory.

David is a friendly, gracious host with local connections! It was a delight not only to discover local hidden gems along the coastline and surrounding woods and fields, but to learn about what it's like growing up in Cornwall. I was impressed by how readily he volunteered information about the area and how effortlessly conversation flowed. This experience was one of the highlights of my trip! And the views were INCREDIBLE.

You must do this walking tour! It was a unique experience that was one of our favorite activities in Cornwall. The weather was perfect as we walked along an old church, fields of barley, dramatic coastal landscapes, and pastures. If you’re worried about the level of difficulty, just message him. He was willing to tailor the experience to our level and fitness and needs, which we really appreciated. We could not recreate this experience without David’s expertise. He included so many historical insights and details about what it’s like to grow up in northern Cornwall. In additional to being incredibly knowledgeable and professional, he’s also friendly and kind. We truly felt like we’d made a new friend by the end of the walk.
