What you'll do

Given the current circumstances regarding Corona and the possibility of social distancing requirements, this tour can accommodate all regulatory demands.

The city tour is naturally out doors and any shops or attractions shall be entered with appropriate face coverings.

The museum we visit is closed to public for the duration of our tour, helping to ensure a relaxed and safe tour is experienced.

Having been greeting with your first beer of the tour, we will take in many of the main sites including Marienplatz, the famous Hofbrauhaus and the food market, MaxJosefplatz, Maxamillianstr, all whilst talking about the significance beer has had on the lives of peoples through the ages. Munich's famous beer garden culture will be explained and lots of places for you to explore on your own at a later point will be highlighted.

Then to the Beer and Oktoberfest Museum for a beer tasting and fresh baked Breztl (pretzel) followed by a tour through the museum itself(closed to the public during our tour), origins and significant developments of the Oktoberfest, refrigeration and beer marketing amongst a number of topics to be discussed, again...with a beer!

Given the current circumstances dinner will be organised to suit the conditions to again ensure the safest possible experience.
Other things to note
We'll meet at the bottom of the Glockenspiel Tower of the new town hall on Marienplatz (the tower with the figures half way up) and go from there!
Keep an eye on the weather forecast and if rain is predicted, perhaps bring an umbrella or waterproofs!

Hello!

Originally from Staffordshire, England, I've been a full time tour guide for over 12 years in Munich now, showing people the sights and explaining Munich's interesting and sometimes complicated darker history.

I conduct English and occasional German guided tours for other companies in the Beer and Oktoberfest Museum and also for the museum itself. For other companies in the town, I work on a self employed basis, guiding 3rd Reich, city walks and bike tours, so am well armed with a serious amount of information!

Having first visited Munich 20yrs ago, and lived permanently Munich for over 13 years, I'll be able to help you with ideas and tips on other things to do in and around the area!

Where you'll be

We will check out some off the more traditional local places the city has to offer whilst also ticking off the must see sites.
"Butchers Row" is an interesting spot, having been meat sellers on that same location for over 700yrs!
The Museum building footprint has been the same since the mid 1300's, owned by the Augustine Fund...explanation as to why drinking beer in Munich is indeed a charitable activity will all be explained!

Iain was an excellent and knowledgable guide. He knows a LOT about Munich, about beer, about history, and about Bavarian culture. I learned a lot and had fun doing it, which is the highest praise I can give. I have friends and family that I'd love to bring to Munich to take Iain's tour—highly recommended.

This beer tour was a lot of fun! We wandered the streets of Munich beers in hand, and learned about how important beer is in Bavarian culture. It is awesome to get a local’s view of the city, and we felt every immersed in the culture. We even made a few friends at dinner and shared a few cold brews! 10/10 recommend if you like beer, history, and funny banter.

We had a fantastic time on Iain's tour, which was a well thought-out experience split between key sites around old town Munich, the Oktoberfest museum, and a beer garden. Iain is laid back, insightful, and humorous, and the experience similarly reflected a great balance between interesting historical story-telling and pleasant banter. I would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone interested in learning about beer and Munich while enjoying excellent beer and being thoroughly entertained along the way. Thanks Iain!

We had a wonderful experience with Lain showing us around Munich. He was one of the most knowledgeable people I have ever spoken to. We walked around Munich, beers in hand, while he told us very interesting stories and nuggets of history at every turn. He was very accommodating with a slight time change that we requested. The dinner was amazing and we were able to try many local beers that I would not have on my own. I could not recommend this experience more! Thanks again Lain!
