What you'll do

The tour will give guests a special opportunity to take a look at some of the oldest surviving woolstores in Teneriffe. Guests will hear about the special place that wool occupied in the history of Queensland, and the living legacy that the woolstores have stamped on Teneriffe.
Learn about the features that made the woolstores special buildings, designed for a particular purpose and a particular location.
You will also learn about the associated industries that occupied Teneriffe right up until the 1970s. Hear how changes in the wool markets lead to the abandonment of the woolstores and the decline of Teneriffe as a suburb. And learn how the area was included in the Building Better Cities Program, from which Teneriffe has emerged as a renewed suburb.
Other things to note
The tour does not require guests to bring any specific equipment. General photography of the building is permitted, but no photography of, or access to individual private residences is permitted.

I have lived in the oldest surviving woolstore in Teneriffe for over twelve years. I moved here when I was involved, professionally, in the regeneration of Teneriffe. I have been hosting tours on the woolstores for all of that time and am now President of a local community group dedicated to protecting, but progressing, Teneriffe.

Great little tour and history lesson. Ben is friendly, a good conversationalist and engaging. He knows how to get the right balance of providing knowledge without bombarding you with info.

Ben is a great communicator and wonderful storyteller. His mixture of stories and facts makes the information very interesting. Ben adds some personal stories and was able to answer our questions. A great way to start our 4 day stay in this area.

A fascinating introduction to the area of Teneriffe, its history and regeneration. Ben is extrememly knowledgeable about the area, the woolstore and renewal projects in general. Great for anyone interested in history and/or buildings. Easy to get to from the centre of town by bus or you can combine it with a trip down the river on the CityCat.

Ben took us on journey back in time when wool was gold and the buildings were made to last. His passion and knowledge of the history of the area is to be admired. We highly recommend the tour.

We got off to a flying start straight off the bat with relevant, interesting & historical information with a guided walk (not at all taxing- short walk) about the Woolsheds. Bens deep knowledge is evident & he made what could be a dreary topic most interesting too. I booked this for my hubby as a Christmas present. What a great experience & so very fascinating. NB: Ben (& his wife) have an apartment within the oldest Woolshed which would have been great to stay in if I had only known about it earlier. Check on the Air BnB site under Woolsheds accommodation Teneriffe if your interested in staying a night for the full experience. Ben says those who do stay get the Woolsheds tour included in the accommodation! Bonus
