What you'll do

The experience begins with a private tour inside the Raffaello Piraino Museum of Costume Foundation, where you will have the chance to admire one of the largest and most complete collections of period dresses illustrated by the owner. Later we will visit the Oratory of the Ladies, an ancient and beautiful oratory with elements of the Serpotta. Before entering the oratory, we will visit the internal garden which still preserves its ancient majolica floor. The oratory is still managed by the 'ladies', and it will be one of them to tell the story and the art that surround this evocative place, exceptionally open for this experience. To finish our experience, we will talk and taste a great Sicilian product: oil. One of the producers will tell you the story of its mill and all the secrets of production, and we will taste together appetizers made with typical products of our tradition such as anchovies, almond paste sweets and local cheeses accompanied by typical jams!
Part of the proceeds will go to the foundation of the costume museum and the chapel of the ladies to support the costs of preserving the places.

I'm Virginia, I'm 26 and I'm a pharmacist! Great passionate of typical Sicilian products, for some years I have focused on my land and all its flavors!
After spending so much time away from my land (in Spain and in England), I came back when I understood the value, and I missed it!
I love being a host of airbnb because I like talking to people and transmit my love for Sicily to them!

Where you'll be

The collection of vintage clothes is located in via the university a few steps from our meeting point. The collection is owned by Professor Piraino who will explain and tell the story of the clothes.
The Oratorio delle dame is a chapel, a jewel of serpentine architecture, which is not always open to the public.
We will do the tasting of organic oils and typical Sicilian products at Sicily Food and Souvenir.

Virginia was a fantastic host. She is friendly, easy to communicate with, and answered all our questons. She knows the city very well, so walking with her was very informative. The tasting she offered included delicious things, some of which I wouldn't have tried in a restaurant, but which turned out amazing! I would definitely book a tour with her again.

Virginia was great! She took us all around and told us lots about modern Palermo and Sicily as well. The food tasting at the end was delicious and we had a great chat! :) Thank you

I booked this experience at the last minute, as I wanted to get a local guides view on Palermo. It was easy to book and the host was really welcoming. I met Virginia in the morning, and she is bubbly and super friendly, really easy to talk to and is a wealth of knowledge about Palermo and Sicily's history. We did a slightly different tour and visited an exhibition as part of the Palermo Manifesta '18, this private tour was great and the building itself was beautiful. We walked extensively across the city and then visited an ex-professor's enormous art and design collection, which was one of the most stunning homes I have ever seen. I learnt a great deal about the way in which Palermo and Sicily embrace the best bits of other cultures and preserve this in Sicily as cultural artefacts for everyone to learn from and see. After visiting this collection, Virginia and her family kindly invited me to have some aperitifs at their shop and try some local delicassy, which were just full of beautiful flavours. I could continue to write more but I don't want to spoil any surprises! If you want to get the insider's knowledge to Palermo, then you MUST book this experience.
