What you'll do

Join me on casual bike ride exploring Oakland. Our route will lead us to Temescal Alley, coined "East Bay’s hippest street," City Hall (home of the Occupy Oakland movement), charming Old Oakland, trendy Uptown Oakland, and of course, the beautiful jewel of Oakland, Lake Merritt.
Don't worry about navigating, I'll take care of that!

We'll start at a centrally located BART station, do introductions, and familiarize ourselves with the bikes. We’ll adjust the seats, don our helmets, conduct a safety orientation, and head off.

We'll see colorful street art, towering redwoods, and gritty urban realities. We'll visit landmark buildings, neighborhood markets, and Instagram-worthy sights. You'll get a sense of the history, culture, and creativity that make The Town so unique. We'll end at a beloved local establishment for food and drink.

We’ll stick to pleasant off-street paths, low-traffic streets, and bike lanes. The ride will be mostly flat.

If there’s anything in particular you’d like to do or see, let me know so I can tailor the ride to your interests/abilities.

NOTE: to use BayWheels bike share you’ll need to purchase a $10 day pass. I will provide helmets for you to borrow. If you have your own bike and helmet feel free to bring them.

You have a friend in Oakland. Come check out the sunny side of The Bay!

I'm Jean! I've lived and worked in Oakland and the Bay Area for 18 years and I'm an Airbnb Superhost.

I’m an elected community leader in the transportation field and I run popular bike rides on Meetup.com. Car-free for 20 years, I get around by bike, public transit, and on foot. I love helping people get around without a car and showing them the nooks and crannies of Oakland.

I’m the President of my neighborhood association, I worked for Baywheels bike share and Lime scooters, and I volunteer with local transportation advocacy groups. As an undergrad history major and an urban planning masters degree holder, I love pointing out interesting historical and political tidbits. I served in the Peace Corps in Nicaragua y hablo Español.

I’m excited to show you Oakland by bike!

Jean was a friendly and helpful host. She showed my friends and I around the Oakland/Emeryville/Temescal areas while making the tour casual and conversational. I recommend this experience for anyone who wants to see a slice of the real Bay Area you won't see at Pier 39, in a chill and engaging setting. If you have your own bike and/or helmet, I would encourage you to bring them.
