What you'll do
You will be hand-processing produce from the garden or a local farm into pickles. We will be using a lacto-fermentation process. You will prepare what ever were processing that day. We will start with an orientation to the place and process. We discuss food safety and storage. You will taste samples of our various pickle recipes made at the homestead.
I am a homesteader, and a professional facilitator and educator. I teach and practice permaculture design, a fermentation series in my local community adult education every year. I also run a small B&B in an historic colonial farmhouse. I have taught 15 permaculture courses in Maine and I have been running this homestead for 6 years.
Where you'll be
This is an historic homestead and a permaculture demonstration site. You will be spending the entire time at the George Perley House. The gardens and the home are beautiful. We will conduct the workshop in the homestead kitchen at the B&B, or outside as weather permits.
