What you'll do

We will introduce ourselves briefly and then jump right into action. Firstly I will demonstrate on how to make a substrate. Each participant will choose an already made substrate with a Greek Roman pattern already drawn or one can draw their own design. A choice of colours are to be chosen from the variety of natural stones available. Each participant will mix the adhesive will with dry pigments to acquire the correct shade of the colour of stones chosen. The mosaic making will commence using nippers, tweezers, piping bags and if time permits a hammer and Hardie used by the Romans for 2000 years. At 12 noon we will take a break at which point a traditional snack will be served. Continue working on mosaic. Upon completion, each mosaic will be wrapped in bubble wrap to ensure safe travelling. A writeup of all demonstrated in the workshop and the history of mosaics will be sent to each participant by email. All tools, materials and snack are included in the price. Bring your smiles and energy and let's have fun.
Other things to note

The Mosaic work shop was a spontanous idea and it tourned out to be one of the best actions we were doing during our vacations. The whole family did a nice piece (mosaic) of art during the 4hours. The hospitality (caffee, Beverage, and delicous Grellingen Food!) and the personality of Dimitra were so good that we will definately come back next year. GREAT EXPERIENCE !

We had an outstanding time with Dimitra and absolutely encourage other travelers to take this course. She is an accomplished artist who makes lovely work and very conversant in the many techniques of mosaic-making. She is a clear, helpful, and perceptive teacher. She offered ideas and advice without intruding into our creative impulses. She was warm, friendly, curious, and told great stories. One of the best parts was getting the time to talk to a local who knows the Mani community and to hear her impressions of the place, culture, and people. That, alone, was worth it but then the mosaic-making on top made it even better. And the pieces we made came out great. Thank you!

Dmitra's mosaic tile workshop was fantastic!! I recommend it for anyone looking for a meditative day trip experience. She showed us many techniques, encouraged our experimentation, and was determined that we would walk away with completed pieces. It was amazing to converse with Dmitra on a variety of topics, to have an honest perspective from a local who also spoke fluent English, and could compare her experiences as a Canadian expat and longtime resident of Greece. We loved the pieces we made and her amazing walnut cake. Thank you, Dmitra!
