Hi , I'm Zhan. I recently became a freelancer , and running my own brand "Yugure". Because of the love for textiles, I went toJinze Art Center to learn hand weaving technology. Hope to continue the traditional Chinese craft in the future.

Learning loom textile art with Zhan was a memorable and delightful experience! Not only did it enrich my journey in Beijing, it also opened my eyes to the world and rich traditions of fabric weaving. Zhan and her cat Wukong (the other furbaby was feeling a little shy :) were such lovely, warm and natural hosts. I am a complete novice in textile arts, so Zhan began by explaining the fundamentals in an accessible way. Then I got to create a small tapestry with Zhan’s guidance. Throughout the experience, we drank tea, took photos (Zhan is a professional), chatted and laughed about life in our respective countries. Even in writing this reflection, the memory makes me smile. Zhan is a true artist in her pursuit of and standards for her art. I’d highly recommend this experience. A word on logistics - if you are worried about commute from city center (ex Wangfujing), as I was, there is nothing to worry about. I took a taxi on the way there and the subway on the way back. Both were super fast and convenient. Plus, Zhan’s home offers a lovely, serene view of the city.

Exactly as expected and more! The space was beautifully decorated with plants and her own tapestries that she created. We had tea and Chinese treats and then took turns learning how to weave with the loom. She was there every step of the way guiding and instructing but allowing us creative freedom to choose our colors and what we did with our individual pieces. She took extra care sewing our finished tapestries on the ends and packaging it up for us. Lastly, she took amazing photos of us during our experience in her home and shared them immediately so we had them to share on our own. From start to finish she was an EXCELLENT host — flexible when we were running late, communicative, allowed us enough time to finish our weaving, and when we were ready to leave she called us a taxi and ensured he would take us to the right place. Bonus: the two cats were super sweet and cute! We even got to give them a treat and they loved it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this experience if you’re looking for a relaxing afternoon and want to learn a new skill.

This was a great experience! She was very kind and accommodating, even when we were late due to traffic and got lost trying to find the apartment since our taxi driver dropped us off at the completely opposite gate. She was also very patient with us as we started looming and suggested more material to try out and see. The apartment also has a great view of Beijing so it was beautiful. Loved this experience and would definitely do it again if we found ourselves in Beijing.

此次紡織活動不但讓我感受在藝術創作的樂趣,更能從中舒解壓力。斜陽的昏黃打照在落地玻璃,在腳踏和交錯針織當中,我渡過了美好的下午。非常推薦此項活動
