What you'll do

I have lived, crafting and nature watching in Hawaii for ten years. We will meet at the beach for a 1/2-1 mile walk along the shoreline of Oahu looking for birds and enjoying the lovely scenery. We will then find a table to begin crafting. We will use wool roving and a felting needle to create a local food out of the wool roving called musubi or you can make a reef fish.
We will enjoy the lovely sunset at queens beach.
When we are finished I will walk you back to our meeting area.

I've lived in Hawaii seasonally for ten years. Honolulu is my town. Ive also been crafting and bird watching for years! I am wool felter and rug maker, beader, and print maker. I've chosen an easy local food called spam musubi for you to craft or you might try a reef fish. The felting still take about an hour. You’ll have a beautiful project to bring home. While making our project we will keep our eyes out for local birds, whales or monk seals ! I have led birding trips and have worked as a bird guide in Hawaii and New York. While we are working I can also give you ideas about places to visit/ eat/ hike while visiting Oahu.

After bouncing around Oahu for a week my wife and kids were ready for something different. They have always wanted to learn to felt wool into shapes and Lisa a was a good teacher. The kids made reef fish and we made musubi. The setting was awesome; the beach park was walking distance but felt like we were seeing something different. We felt more like locals since there were not many tourists there. The sunset was awesome so there was a lot to make this experience special. Lisa knows a lot about nature and Oahu in general and shared a lot of her local knowledge with us. We would recommend taking her experience.

The whole family loved taking Lisa’s art and nature experience. She pointed out all the local birds and we realized that most of them were from other parts of the world ! The kids loved the white fairy terns the best..seabirds that come into town to nest in the branches of the monkey pod trees. We enjoyed learning to felt and making a felt spam musubi which will be a nice memorial for our trip to display on a shelf when we get home! She suggested many activities to do in the area like hikes and favorite local markets to check out.

I got lucky finding Lisa and this experience. I am a super crafty person but had never tried felting so I booked this class. Lisa showed me examples of what I could make and I went for the spam musubi. It was so adorable! She showed me the felting technique, how to wrap and appropriately size it. And I had so much different wool colors to choose from. I am definitely a person who needs some extra support to get started and Lisa was ready to provide it. I got the cutest little felted spam musubi now for my shelf of Knick-knacks. I am already planning on rebooking because Lisa also does felted soaps and jewelry! Also it just has to be noted, this activity was very stress-relieving. Something about sticking it to that felted musubi! 😅😇 Thanks Lisa for teaching me your ways. I can’t wait for our next class.
