I grew up watching my father at the loom, and can’t remember a time I couldn’t weave. Like him, I’m a weaver and maker of all kinds of tassels and trimmings, known as Passementerie, working with high end interior designers for homes of all types. I specialise in heritage projects; my work can be
seen in many National Trust properties around the country as well as churches and other public buildings. I have featured in The World of Interiors magazine and in the “Living National Treasure” series on Endangered Crafts in Country Life magazine.

Where you'll be

We will be based in my working studio where I produce all my trimmings. The studio is quite small so I'll be hosting a maximum of 2 guests at a time. The studio is not open to the public at any other time.

I thoroughly enjoyed this Passementerie experience with Clare. Clare is a very inspiring and brilliant craftsperson and a wonderful teacher, and it was fascinating to see the huge variety of beautiful trimmings and tassels that she makes. She explained how the looms work and the techniques used. I felt incredibly privileged to have met and be taught by Clare who is such an expert in this beautiful endangered craft. As I was a complete beginner, Clare explained everything very clearly to me so that by the end of the afternoon I had made a gorgeous key tassel to take home with me. Clare provided all the materials needed, together with a lovely bonus of a delicious homemade cake and coffee in the break! If you enjoy making beautiful things, you will thoroughly enjoy this experience - I highly recommend it.
